The 78L05 voltage regulator was replaced with a LP2986 low voltage dropout regulator. Transistors Q1, Q2 and resistors R1, R2, R3 & R4 were removed and connection of RXD and TXD I/O signals was made directly to PIC pins 17 & 18.

Jumpers were added from RXD and TXD I/O pads to PIC pins 17 & 18.

Right angle pins were installed and soldered to the I/O solder pads. These pins then plug into the tracker assembly and serve as both electrical connections and mounting posts.
